Unhappy MySQL 3.23

I am trying to install MySQL 3.23

I have got up to the 5th step, running ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql
After a while in the output it says:

sorry, i don't know what that message means. but you won't have trouble installing mysql as rpm. so if you don't find a better solution this may be an alternative. good luck
