Hello,
i recently install Muse and whenever i start the program i get this error msg
"Failed to initialize the Alsa midi subsystem, check your conifugration.". What's wrong?
thanks
hello,
muse does not start, first i get the following error msg "muse failed to find a jack audio server" and then i get the error msg with the midi subsystem
my audio device is a builton realtek alc889a (MB giga-byte GA-M790FX-DQ6)
what do you mean by if i have a jack running? the sound card is just connected to the speakers and the mic (if this is what you mean)
thanks a lot for your help
Most linux audio apps use the jack audio server. They won't start without it.
do:
apt-get install jackd qjackctl
start it with qjackctl. If youget xruns, make adjustments in the settings. Jack might refuse to start if other applications are using the soundcard at the moment - a simple flash page in firefox could cause a problem.
Most packages in the debian repos, even in Unstable are very old. That brings the stability, but it comes with a price. You might want to check if there is a more recent version, there might have been some improvements (just speculating, I'm not using Muse).
thanks for the help,
but i still didn't get it to work, (didn't try much though, don't have enought time)
what am trying to do here is to stream some music on the net, i got icecast and read that one of the best progs to stream music thought it is muse
again thanks for the help, if you have any suggestions about streams i would be gratefull, when i do more work on muse and jack i will post about the problems
I don't know anything about streams. I know muse only as a sampler and recording app.
You should only have to click start in qjackctl, make sure it starts up, then start muse and check back into qjackctl if you're getting xruns, if you do increase the buffer in the qjackctl settings.
hello,
after all i managed to get jackd server running and i got rid of the first error msg that said "muse failed to find a jack server running"
but i still get the error msg "muse failed to initialize the alsa midi subsystem, check your configuration" and then muse exits
which configuration is he talking about? :| :|
Well, you could try:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start
Also post the output. It probably is running so make it stop and start again. Basically I would be looking for the midi driver, which is... well it has "midi" in the name, I think.
i got the no such file or directory the following commands (in both su and normal user moods)
/etc/init.d/alsasound start (/etc/init.d/ is also where i restart the network interface)
/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start
does this mean that i don't have alsa?
but i have done the command apt-get install alsa
unlikely... but you can go just get all this and you should be fine:
apt-get install alsa-firmware-loaders alsa-tools alsa-tools-gui
I don't really know how to set it up... it's probably modprobe something...
You can check in system-preferences sound - if you have gnome. I don't know about kde.
