Mplayer skin howto

So I've downloaded mplayer skins, .tar.bz2 files[ how do I extract those?] and how does mplayer know to use them?

Untar it (tar xjf skinname) to ~/.mplayer/Skin/ - based on hardcoding that's one of two (I believe) places it looks. This can be modified (I believe) in the config files. This is in the documentation.

Mine are in /usr/share/mplayer/Skin, so when I try to cp the extracted file to /usr/share/mplayer/Skin, I recieve the following;

# cp Dushku /usr/share/mplayer/Skin
cp: omitting directory `Dushku'

and nothing is transferred. The Dushku dir contains;
# ls Dushku
button-eq.png button-playlst.png button-stop.png pos.png vol.png
button-forward.png button-play.png button-url.png README
button-next.png button-prev.png font.fnt skin
button-open.png button-rewind.png font.png sub.png
button-pause.png button-skinbr.png main.png VERSION

If you've already untarred it and want to move the directory, you need to 'mv' or 'cp -r' or 'cp -R' the directory.

also make sure you symlink that directory to default with
ln -s /usr/share/mplayer/Skin/Dushku /user/share/mplayer/Skin/default

mplayer only looks into the directory "default" for skins

In my distro, default is just another skin, sucha as;
/usr/share/mplayer/Skin/AlienMind
/usr/share/mplayer/Skin/BlueHeart
/usr/share/mplayer/Skin/default
/usr/share/mplayer/Skin/gnome
/usr/share/mplayer/Skin/WindowsMediaPlayer6
and Dushku is just another skin from;
ftp://ftp3.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/Skin/

Instead of cp Dushku /usr/share/mplayer/Skin do mv Dushku /usr/share/mplayer/Skin worked for me
