MPlayer DVB 5.1 Surround Broadcasts Low Center Volume On 4.0 Speaker Arrangement

The title says it all.

I have a 4.0 speaker arrangement, but when I watch DVB broadcasts with 5.1 audio, the volume of the mixed "center" channel for the speech is really low. In my /etc/mplayer/config file, I have channels=4 as an option. Stereo DVB broadcasts sound fine with normal volume.

Strangely, the real culprit seems to the local NBC station broadcasting a 1920x1080 stream with 6 channel audio. Other local stations broadcasting 6 channel audio seem to be just fine. Personally, I use UMPlayer as the GUI for MPlayer and I'm very satisfied except for this weird glitch with NBC. Apparently, the low volume is only found when NBC is broadcasting national streams, e.g. the Today show, etc. Hmmmmmmmm....
