mp3 output to a different computer

Hey guys,

I have just set up a linux box and I would like to know if it is possible to play mp3s on my box and have the output compning through the speakers of my desktop.

This would also be handy when I'm in the library at university, it would be good to play music from my computer in the flat when I'm writing an essay in theLibrary.

So, is it possible to make my box play mp3s and then channel the output the the speakers on my desktop?

many thanks and I hope someone has an answer

You could set up a ShoutCast server. www.shoutcast.com

I set up an NFS mount on a central server on my home LAN and mount it from a wired desktop and from wireless laptops (using external speakers) with XMMS as the playback method.

thanks guys, I will get onto that.

Do you know if it is possible to do the same with other programs, like movies. Make the server do all the work and just have the output on another computers?

thanks
