Moving vsftpd from xinetd to /etc/rc.d/init.d

Hi,

I have installed vsftpd server on my redhat 9.0.. Xinetd is taking control of the vsftpd server. i want to move the vsftpd from xinetd control to the /etc/rc.d/init.d so that it can be started at the boot time . Because this would allow me to start and stop the vsftpd service using "service vsttpd start/stop". But if it is under control of the xinetd i have to start/stop and xinetd when ever i want stop the vsftpd server. i know that i can disable vsftpd sever by setting disable=yes in vsftpd service file, but i want to move the vsftpd from xinetd control. so that it can be started at boot time. Any ideas will be helpful for me.

thanx,
rajesh.

I have no experience with vsftpd but the reason ftp daemons are usually run from (x) inetd is that you would normally allow several simultaneous ftp connections. So there must be a separate listener process that launches one daemon for each connection.

One solution is to write a simple script with a start and a stop branch. Use sed to modify the disable line in the configuration script, then run xinetd reload. This way you're not stopping the xinetd service, just forcing it to reload the configuration.
