moving a hard drive to another computer
I want to install Linux on a computer and then move the hard drive to
another computer. Will that work? Both computers use amd 32 bit
processors and nvidia video cards. I will also be using Ubuntu 6.06.
I've had pretty good luck moving Debian based distros from one machine to another. The only gotcha I can really think of is if one machine uses SATA and one is IDE.
Most everything else should be discovered properly by hotplug.
You should have no problem doing this as linux is quite flexible due to the hotplug. As pljvaldez said the only problem might be HD interface but Ubuntu's kernel has both compiled in by default. If you do encounter any problems (such as PCMCIA support), just compile it into the kernel or install the required stuff on the original machine and then try on the new machine
Okay, he mentioned a part (a small part of the hardware), but what if they are different motherboards?
I'm asking this because i'm about to do that moving too!

Reason: to show my new signature ! , but y asking :D
should be no problem either unless the motherboard has really weird components (like specific chipset) that the kernel is compiled for. But most kernels these days have a lot of broad options built in
should not be a problem. only if you have like they said before some weird/unusual hardware on the others mainboard.
this mostly happens with pre-build systems like packard bell.
but who uses pre-build systems anyway

Yes, probably.
When I moved Suse from one PC to another I first changed the default GUI startup to text startup. I reconfigured both sound and video from the ncurses YAST.
If you know at install you will be moving the drive do minimal configuration then.
