mount ntfs

hi

can someone advise please

I can't mount the windows partition (ntfs)
I use Fedora core 5
I made these steps

Quote:
uname -rm

I got this :

Quote:
2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp i686

I then installed this file :
kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5-2.1.26-0.rr.10.0.i686.rpm

Quote:
rpm -Uvh kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5-2.1.26-0.rr.10.0.i686.rpm
Quote:
reboot

when I tried to mount using this command :

Quote:
mkdir /mnt/windows
mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows

I get this message :

Quote:
mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs'

any help please
thanks ...

You missed "smp"
You will have to download & install
kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp-2.1.26-0.rr.10.0.i686.rpm

Remember that ntfs module will let you mount the ntfs partition read-only. For write access (which is limited, i.e. won't work 100%) you will have to use something like Fuse or Captive (hopefully I rememered the names correctly). They don't provide you a completely working write (or delete) access, but do work partly (not all data get written, etc.) - and they don't work (at least easily) on 64-bit.

I wonder why ntfs module isn't in Fedora kernel by default, when ntfs partitions are quite common these days..
