This is an improvement, though still not the behavior we would prefer which is to not discriminate by stream selection and instead allow the user to choose audio streams in their media player.
It does allow you to choose between the TV audio feed and the English radio audio feed in the media player. It doesn't give you the ballpark only (no commentary) feed or the spanish feed, so you would need to restart the stream for them, but I don't need them. Presumably if you picked the spanish radio feed, you would have a choice of that and the standard TV audio feed (haven't tried).
Sure, it would be nice if you could have all four, but not a significant problem for me.
Have you guys seen the "Facebook Game of the Week" crap? Every Friday one game is only (?) shown on FB, not on TV and not on MLB.TV, apparently not even as an archive?
And MLB.TV is still advertising Watch EVERY out-of-market regular season game LIVE or on demand in HD (emphasis not even mine).
The Phillies vs Mets game from yesterday is available as an archive on mlb.tv at least and I can download it with mlbplay. I don't know about the live stream thought. Will have to check the next time a game is on.
Okay, that's interesting. I didn't check that since I'm not at home right now. Thanks!
It's not watchable from the MLB.TV Media Center.
It is available on the MLB.TV media centre right now, top right, marked "Facebook Game of the Week". Whether it was available when you posted I don't know but I notice that the Brewers v Cardinals game next Wednesday is listed on the MLB.TV media centre browser interface, as are the succeeding ones.
If it wasn't shown live on MLB.TV it plays via Facebook fine on linux, but you would need a Facebook account, which is possibly what irks you. We can see next Wednesday whether it is also shown on MLB.TV live to subscribers or not: do you know for a fact that yesterday's game wasn't?

Yes the game is visible in the MLB.TV Media Center, but when I click the link "MLB Live on Facebook Watch" to start watching I only get the message "No available content for this game. Please select a different game.". Is that different for you?

I don't have a Facebook account and I don't want one, so yes, I'd hate that. Also, I've grown accustomed to watching the games in my own media player.
I can't say with an absolute certainty that the game wasn't streamed live on MLB.TV, but all signs point in that direction. We will see.

Yes it works fine for me.
I expect that you get the same message on every game, whether the Facebook game or not. If so, I deduce that you are away from home on a Windows computer using Firefox or Chrome, or you are using Internet Explorer and haven't marked www.mlb.com as trusted. To do that go to Network and Internet -> Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites, or instead uncheck "Enable Protected Mode" for untrusted sites.

Ah yes, none of the games work for me here. Thanks for the hint, why didn't I think of that? Never mind what I wrote....

Looking through the game schedules it looks as if the Facebook Game of the Week has taken the place of last season's Free Game of the Week. I suspect you are probably wrong, but we don't need to speculate. All will be revealed in 6 days' time.
Hi everyone, thanks a lot for this. Is this currently working for live games?
I managed to get through the install and now I'm trying to watch a live game using "mlbplay pit --verbose".
I can see that it's getting an access token and then it's trying to pass the stream along with the token to livestreamer.
And that's where it stops and nothing happens. The mpv player is never opened. I tried the with vlc, same deal. The path to mpv is fine and is working with livestreamer. Any ideas?
I'm back from vacation and trying to work through a backlog of stuff on mlbstreamer and some other projects. I was very happy to see so much progress on the alternate audio streams, and am delighted to see that the project is being targeted for inclusion in Debian Linux. Guess I need to up my game now that the project is getting more exposure!
Re: the Facebook broadcasts... boy, do I have opinions on that!
I went to download the Phillies game yesterday so I could watch it after work, and I noticed a blackout message coming back from mlbstreamer. At first I thought it was stale credentials, then I thought they might be messing up their geolocation. I clicked through to the MLB.tv web interface and saw that it was a Facebook exclusive broadcast.
I knew the Facebook streams were coming, and I was pretty sure they'd be exclusives on Facebook, much to my dismay as someone who isn't on FB. But the first one keeps me from watching my beloved Phillies? Yuck!
The good news here, if there is any, is that the streams are available an hour or two after the game finishes, much like the FOX national broadcasts.
As for the broadcast itself, see here for my rant about how much they ruined the experience of watching a game. Honestly if they're going to screw with the video that much and plaster it with hot takes from social media, I'd rather not watch.
Anyway, I'm going to try to do a proper README tonight and clean up some other minor bugs I've found. Hoping to add MiLB support soon now that AAA games have started, and would like to get the project into PyPI soon as well so people don't have to do the clunky install from GitHub thing.
