Hi, how can I use the MKISOFS to burn a CD with PowerPC-ISO and make the CD to boot on my iMac PowerPC G3?

eg MKISOFS <name-of-iso> -hfs-osx <name-and-path-to-CD>

Ordinary programs to write the ISO to CD will not boot this iMac

iso format is iso9660.

perhaps dd a file of the right size.
mkfs of the right filesystem on the file.
mount the file (-o loop), copy whatever contents to it.
and then burn it in some form of raw.
just a guess though, I've never had a need for special file-system iso images.

I think there's also options to enable boot like parameters. el-torito or other options. I think the burning software (cdrecord / growisofs / wodim / cdrdao / ???) has options for boot type stuff. You might also try K3b, it might package that into it. Don't know though, I normally do things the hard way.

Are you creating the disks on Linux or on Mac? There are some tutorials on the web, like this ones

Sometimes they say that under certain Linux kernels this process creates a non-bootable (on a Mac) CD. But creating them on Mac always works.

mkisofs does NOT burn cds it makes iso, try 'cdrecord'.

I use this Ubuntu 9.04 laptop for writing the CD. If I try a blank CD on iMac it is ejected after few seconds.

It's OK now. Hold the Alt-key at boot give option to boot from CD.
Now this old iMac is a Ubuntu 9.04 desktop. The powerpc.iso did the trick.
