Microphone not working in skype

Hi,
I have a new system with Mageia 64 installed.
The microphone does not work in skype. I can hear a sort of a hiss.
cat /proc/asound/cards
Shows this:
Code:
0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xfb620000 irq 71
 1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfb080000 irq 17
 2 [Headset ]: USB-Audio - Logitech USB Headset
Logitech Logitech USB Headset at usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.2, full speed
arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC898 Analog [ALC898 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 2: ALC898 Alt Analog [ALC898 Alt Analog]

  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
card 2: Headset [Logitech USB Headset], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I did this
Code:
arecord -d 10 /tmp/test-mic.wav
Then this:
Code:
aplay /tmp/test-mic.wav
Just get back hissssssssssss.

Run alsamixer and make sure the mic volume is up high enough, and also double check to see if the channel is muted; A few distributions I've tried in the past had the microphone muted by default.

If I understand you correctly, the problem is not a skype problem but rather a problem that your mic is not functioning at all. I agree with corp769's suggestion in post #2.
