Since you don't tell us where you're seeing this notice, on what version of Mint, we have no idea. Chances are it's a web-browser pop up...close it, or go to a different web page.

Sorry about that. Appears in my Firefox browser running Linux Mint 21.2.

So you don't have a problem with Linux Mint showing a notification.

You should really spend some time to understand the difference between a browser and the OS running that browser.

If it's an advert of some sort on a website, installing uBlock Origin will probably make it go away, and almost certainly improve your browsing experience.

I understand the difference between a browser and a OS. I suspect the issue is with the browser rather than the OS. You don’t need to be condescending. Thanks for your help.

If that's so, and you say you only see this message in a browser...why would you say it's coming from your Mint?? It's your browser, and either coming from a website or a piece of malware. uBlock origin is a good suggestion, as is privacy badger and scriptsafe.

Yep, I add both uBlock Origin and Ad Blocker Plus to Firefox. I also have a Pi-hole in operation to catch more things... If sites insist on disabling ad blockers, I just don't go there.

purple52 , install ClamTK from the Linux Mint Software Center, then update it then run a scan and remove the trouble it finds.

Strange heh yesterday I was trying to find garden planting help for two native australian plants and thou I have uBlock origin and privacy badger got a pop up for a McAfee notification , I need to perform a scan from them an illegal virus , say a what,
Shut that link and went back to searches, it's was article in www.theregister.com I think ?not 100% sure about that anyway now it seem that Linux is not as safe as it used to be.
First time this rubbish has pop up on FF, have they (bad actors) found way around uBlock origin and/or privacy badger bit of a worry ?

Some dodgy websites act like you might have a virus and want you to do a scan (or more likely, buy their shady product). These are tricks aimed at Windows users and mean nothing to Linux users. If you find yourself in such a place, I'd recommend visiting more reputable websites or at least ignoring such tricks.

purple52,
It sounds like an offending cookie or somesuch has gotten stuck in one of Firefox's cookie or cache folders. If you haven't already done so, set Firefox's options to delete all cookies, history, and cache every time you close the program: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...e-data-firefox.

And as others have already mentioned, there are plenty of Firefox add-ons that you can install which will block a lot of that kind of crap for you. Some previous responders have mentioned such programs, some of which I've never used. In my many years of using Firefox though (on many different systems), I've found that a combination of the NoScript, UBlock Origin, and Ghostery add-ons do the trick quite well.

I agree with David Roesch; I've used the same 3 utilities (plus Privacy Badger) for years on FF and it seems to be a very effective combo.
