Mathcad for Linux

There is a program called Mathcad widely used in university environments for the engineering industry.

What sort of scientific calc program would be available in the open source world for this?

Mathcad does offer a 'sample' version but you can't save things in it.

If a spreadsheet/design were built for mathcad, could it port to Linux?

There is octave which is a matlab clone. It does essentially the same thing, but you have to a sort of programming language so it is not as easy as mathcad.

Now we have to find some audio speaker builders who know mathcad and octave. :-)

The application is from the hobbyist speakerbuilding world. The complex application calculations
need to be ported to a calculator that doesn't
have all the restrictions of Mathcad.

I often wondered why there was no version of
Mathcad where just the single prog could be sold
as a package.

Since that is not the case I'm still whistling in the dark.
