Mandriva Linux mpeg 1 layer 3 codec for rhythm box music player

I would have never thought something so simple could be so difficult. I am trying to install the mp3 codecs for rhythm box music player and I can't find the commands to do so online or anywhere. I did this no problem in fedora 12. I just don't know where to look for Mandriva how to's. Would I just update the gstreamer plugins to get the mp3's to work? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Can I just use the Fedora how to articles?

AFAIK. The easy way to get the so called "propietary" codecs is through mandriva one or mandriva powerpack (the powerpack is a commercial edition). You can also try the mandriva forums and also search with urpmi for a package called "lame"-something, which will contain the codec called "lame" which is the one that handles mp3 (mpeg 1 layer 3).

Have you tried to add PLF repository? If not, you can visit this site: http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/.
Click 'Add PLF medias' from there. I guess the browser will ask then how to open a file named 'easyurpmi.urpmi-media', you just accept the default. Then it will ask a lot of confirmations (openSUSE does the same with One Click Install) and finally the repository will be added.
Then it would be possible to install MP3-related packages through Mandriva's graphical package manager. AFAIK you have to install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly for mp3's to play in Rhythmbox.
(Disclaimer: I do not use Mandriva now, so it's just what I remember from my past experiences and what I guess from what Google told me )

Thank you so much Prehistorik. I added the repository form the easy urpmi site manually because I'm a nerd and like the command line. LOL. Then I did the used the command "urpmi gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly" and fixed the problem!!!! Thank you for the help very much appreciated.
