Managing a large number of printers with CUPS. Server/Client
Good day all,
I have a large number of printers to roll out, a total of about 120, to various Linux servers. I've easily created a central Cups server with Ubuntu 16.04 and have all 120 printers ready to go.
If I update the /etc/cups/client.conf file with the Cups server, then all 120 show up as local printers without any requirement for drivers. However, I have to restrict these printers per server.
The question is...
Can I restrict this? How do I install a single local printer on a client, while still directing it to the Cups server without a driver requirement on the client? Command line would be preferable. Few of our servers have GUI's.
The issue here is that some of the software can only print to local printers.
While the print server is Ubuntu, the rest is RHEL v5 through v7, so I'm dealing with Cups 1.4x - 1.6x
Thanks all.
