make Craig's List ad notifier in Bash?

Hi, I have OpenSuSE 11.2, and I am learning Bash scripting. I was wondering how I would make a bash program, That I could have it check multiple craigslist sites [western mass, worcester mass, etc], e.g. in the Free category, and/or enter keywords, and have it update every 5 minutes, and then post the results somewhere, to a file, or even upload it to a server, or if it's even possible? (Kind of like the program "Ad Notifier for Craigslist") Would I have to do this in C/C++? If it has to be done in C/C++ It would have to be windows compatible preferably.

You could do this fairly easily using curl and bash. I've done something similar with twitter and facebook using their apis and urls.

Great! Okay, I am still a beginner so could you give me an example code of how to search craigslist from bash? And how would I compare it with the last update? Put the search results into a file, and then check the file size of each [all I can think of now]?
