Looking for ANY software that outputs video to Video4Linux2

Hey guys,

I'm having a little trouble with writing an embedded hardware accelerated mpeg player.

The hardware I'm using works completely through Video4Linux ( No X11, No xv )

The v4l2 specification is very helpful on captureing data from video4linux drivers, but is completely useless for information on how to supply video data to output devices (actually, a video overlay)

I need some working code to take a look at, but i cannot find a single program that provides video data to V4l2, only countless numbers of capture programs.

I have taken a look at the v4l2 code in mplayer, but that is only there for video capture and encode to disk, there doesn't seem to be any code for mplayer to output to a video4linux device.

Absolutely anything would help here.

Does anyone know of any existing Video4Linux output software ???

Thanks.

I have very little clue about how video4linux works, but there is a module called 'vivi' (for virtual video driver) available in current kernels. From the kernel docs:

"This device shows a color bar and a timestamp, as a real device would generate by using V4L api."

Just a guess, but it sounds a bit like what you are asking for.

Thanks... A Userspace application would have been ideal, but hopefully i will be able to work my way back from this as example code.

If anyone else knows of similar (userspace?) V4l2 (video provider) applications, please post 'em here.

( I say video provider because terms like input / output in the v4l2 code are making my head spin...
the words input / output mean very different things depending on the context.. hardware / driver / application ) Hardware's Input is the Drivers Output is The Applications Input...... It gets confusing .
