Question Looking for a PC file browser in the form of virtual library room

Hello,

I remember some years ago seeing on a Windows PC a file explorer that was very intuitive. It showed a library room with furniture and bookshelves on which were different bound volumes. By moving your mouse, you could go to a volume and select pages/files stored in the computer.

The volumes had labels and were arranged according to the user's choice.

This seems a much better way of putting away documents and could be an excellent desktop background image.

Does anyone know if anything similar exists under Linux?

Thank you for your help and contributions to this thread.

Best regards,

Dominic

You could do something like this with fluxbox and fbdesk, for instance. Its not the greatest or easiest solution, but it would work.

Use a picture of a library room (including books etc) as a desktop wallpaper, but also cut out the pictures of the books and use them as icons for a desktop icon program, and then place the icons at the exact location they appear on the wallpaper.

You would then be able to click those icons to open an ebook in xpdf.

Dear Mr. Bergman,

Thank you very much for your suggestion, which does indeed provide an answer to my search. Unfortunately, however, its implementation would be far beyond my beginner's compentence!
I'm still hoping there might be package or even a Windows program that could run under Wine to provide this 'visual' explorer.

Best regards,

Dominic
