Looking for a LAN messenger for Ubuntu 6.06

Hi

Does anyone know of a LAN messenger for Ubuntu 6.06. I've used LanToucher and BorgChat for Windows, but I can't find something similar for Linux. I found Akeni Messenger which is a cross platform Windows & Linux Lan messenger, but it's not free. I need something that is LAN only. Skype, aMSN & GAIM won't do the job.

Thx for any suggestions

Regards

nothing wrong with gaim for that... you're just confusing im clients and im protocols / servers. try xmpp / jabber. gaim works just fine with that.

I don't understand. Isn't jabber an IRC client. I'm not connected to the internet. I'm on a wireless LAN with my neighbour. If jabber isn't internet based, how do I use it over my LAN?

Regards

you could have got all those answers instantly by looking at the jabber homepage... i wouldn't have told you about xmpp / jabber if it wasn't suitable for your needs.
