Hello, new member here, need help from you!

I have Redhat workstation 3 running fine for 3 years on a HP. Recently I noticed that after the system is continuously on for a few days, I can not login to any other account any more, can't su to root either. I can logout from current account, then I can not login any more. I have to power off the machine which is undesirable. The workaround was that I always su to a root account right after I first login right after boot, so that I can bring the system down (init 6) when it won't let me login to other account or su or shutdown.

But today, the system won't come up any more, it hangs when starting two processes that requires "su" in init.d. So I disabled those processes in the init.d, but the system still can not come up to X-windows, I guess it hangs again some where that needs to login or su or something similar.

I am suspecting that some files are corrupted, your help to get this fixed will be greatly appreciated!
