locking up on the choose language screen

i am havinga problem installing redhat 9 on my compaq presario 5011r. everything seems fine until i get to the choose language screen then the whole thing just locks up. i have tried to install using text mode but the same screen just shows up and then it locks. can anybody help me figure out what the hell is wrong? thnx

Did you check the md5sum on the ISO's? Did you use the tool that Red Hat has to test the installation media?

i tried the tool that red hat had with the os but nothing happened, it just went to the choose language screen. everytime i type a command it just goes to that screen. as for the md5sum thing on the iso's i'm not really sure what that means or how to check it, if you could tell me that would be kewl. i just want linux on my machine real bad so that i can experiement with it, it looks like a kewl os
