Before I start I will answer your questions really quick.

I am booting off the cd in order to make the new casper because I can't access the USB while booting off the USB. At least I don't think I can. :P

The lap hard drive got "bumped" really hard while running a virus scan and scratched it so it's done.

Really quick though. The only thing I'm having problems with Mint is when I activate the wireless driver. I can activate it (plugged in hardline of course) and the wireless then works. But when I shut down or standby...it quits. Because the casper isn't persistant.

Now...let me start the process.....

Hmmm...the casper should be persistent

also, yes you can access usb while booting from usb
casper-rw is probably not persistent cause your booting off cd
and not the usb

I think you gotta boot and run from usb to use casper-rw

I am also doing this before I make the new casper:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopi...23516&p=137543

OH MY GOSH!!! IT WORKS!!!! I missed a step in this link. I didn't put persistant in one other place. Thank you guys so very much for all your patience and time. I appreciate it so very very much. You don't even know!

No doubt!
that's not cool the other tutorial isn't that good.

if you want a faster boot, you can edit the syslinux.cfg in usb
and set the timeout to 0

here is syslinux.cfg entry from that link

Code:
 label live
menu label Start Linux Mint XFCE Community Edition - persistent
      kernel /casper/vmlinuz
      append file=/cdrom/preseed/mint.seed boot=casper persistent initrd=/casper/initrd.gz quiet splash --
    menu default
see the code "menu default"?
if that is the one you want to boot always, leave it there and
set timeout to 0
on syslinux.cfg

then whenever you boot off usb, it'll just boot instead of showing menu, etc

so are you booting from usb yet?

I don't have my lappy with me at work anymore since it works fine now.
Except that firefox will just shut down randomly at times but hey...I'm not complaining.

what's up dude?
I heard some linux's having issues with firefox-3.5 crashing
is that one you got?

I still think you should try Debian-Spicy SID-based Sidux-xfce 482mb
cause it's debian-like ubuntu/mint, etc
and YOU don't gotta burn it to cd
AND it lives frugally, either with or without
a sidux-rw
I'm not using the sidux-rw
just the persist option
it's bad-ass dude
and I already got mine hooked up with flash10 and other stuff

you want I'll hook you up with good info to hook it up

if you got enough space on usb you could dual-boot
Both mint and sidux dude, real easy

sorry I may seem I barge in just like that. But I thought usb flash drive
is non-volatile and an expert says after a millions or so of read write the memory is not good anymore. I have a friend who tried to put linux
of a usb thumb drive but booting takes about 5mins. He gave up on that. Please comment. Thanks!

what is your specific question?
start a new post if you want ideas for usb multidistro or whatever and we'll hook it up dude

linus72: your useful comments are noted. At least there is something for me to consider in the future. I shall keep this short, please carry on with the previous lively discussions!

I don't think it's just a firefox issue. My programs seem to crash all of a sudden also.

It might be Mint dude
My mint wouldn't load the desktop wallpaper at boot, just a black desktop
no wallpaper I mean
and the net connection didn't work right, and all other distro's easily get my connection
via auto dhcp

it might be mint dude

I'm writing you from new Fedora 11 I just added to my growing usb
I also got a little 275mb persistence casper-rw file
it works good but too small

dude I got like 10 distro's on this bitch now
you should go multidistro dude
I'll hook you up

it's like Crack for linux addicts dude

LOL. I can hardly go to a webpage without it crashing sooner or later. Most of the time it's sooner.

I'm thankful that it even works though. LOL.

I'm willing to learn more of what you are talking about though.

what's up dude
since you like mint
you might like WattOS
I got it running from usb today real easy too
it uses lightweight openbox/lxde wm I think?

http://www.planetwatt.com/

I got it running nd it works good too
added that o the ole usb today too

I had to make a 2nd partition on usb (fat32)
cause the ubuntu's won't do the casper-rw
on a ext3 usb

so, I got wattOS on the 1st ext3 partition and
the casper-rw on the fat32 one

which distro's do you wanna boot from usb?
