Linux answers to Illustrator and Pagemaker

Hello,

I have a client that uses Windows with Adobe Illustrator and Pagemaker. I turned them on to Gimp for their photoshop needs and they are very happy, but I am not sure what software packages compare to Illustrator and Pagemaker. If there are some do they match up as well as Gimp does to photoshop? Another sticking point would be the ability to open old pagemaker files. Any ideas? If I can get these answered we will have one less windows user in the world!

You probably need to take a look at Inkscape and Scribus.
