Okay, I've removed LINUX from my laptop but I'm trying to remove LILO (Linux Loader). The only way to do this through dos is by using a boot disc and running FDISK /MBR or using LILO -U
HOWEVER, the laptop does not have an internal or external Floppy Drive, so I downloaded a boot disc for DOS, then imaged it over to a bootable CD ROM. Now, this CD ROM will boot my PC, however, the laptop requires intervention to boot anything other than the master boot record. I have configured the laptop to load CD-ROM devices before Hard-drives when asked to do so
Going into the boot menu however, and choosing CD ROM DRIVE, merely returns back to LILO.
I've also tried disabling the primary IDE drive in an attempt to force loading of the CD-ROM Drive, to no avail. LILO merely comes up saying "Operating System not Found".
Since I can't boot into anything other than Windows or a linux loading screen that crashes, is there any way to remove LILO? Possibly through a "Runs on windows" distro?
And if you read anything you'd see that I cant boot to any device other than the master boot record containing LILO. That prohibits using a WinXP boot disc.
It sounds like the CD you are trying to boot from isn't really bootable. Hard to tell without really knowing your BIOS tho. If it isn't a bootable CD, then the system will go ahead and try the HDD again. Have you tried this CD on another system?

hit delete when your computer is booting and make sure your bios is set to boot cds b4 harddrives this is obviously not the way it is setup now because it doesnt matter what is on your HD it WILL ALWAYS BOOT FROM CD first if it set to in your bios even if lilo or grug or anything else is installed on your HD
after checking that make sure your CDs are actually bootable try with the the windows xp cd and go to the repair console and hit fixboot or fixmbr
that should work if not maybe your windows XP is burnt like mine and is not set to bootable
Not to sound arrogant, but does nobody read my posts?
I've set CD-ROM to primary boot device, and I know, FOR A FACT, that the CD-ROM is a bootable media because it boots on all the other PCs here (I run a net-cafe).
Then is HAS to be something with your laptop's BIOS settings, or the CD-ROM drive itself, although that is unlikely. Ask anybody here, if the machine is truly set to boot from the CD-ROM first, LILO will absolutely not load.
