wait just a minute, you are going far and above what you need to do first refer to
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=73436 in the general forum to let you know what to do. Now why would you want lilo on a disk? I suspect that you want a kernel on a disk to boot from. Well this may and may not be possible to put lilo on a disk and boot from it you must have the kernel there. and to have the kernel there you must have a really small kernel. Do you have a kernel that will fit on a disk? what you may want to look in to is adding an entry to your current lilo.conf file that allows you to boot this new kernel or the old one. then run lilo and reboot choosing your new kernel. this way if it fails which suprisingly enough often happens with kernel rebuilds you can go ahead and reboot in your old kernel.
Or did I misunderstand the question?
