Lightroom equivalent

Hi all, I'm currently mixed use of linux and windows. The main reason for still using windows is that I'm a photographer and lightroom is an absolute godsend for workflow. I can't imagine not using something like it to get through a wedding shoot of several hundred images from 5D2's.

Is there something available on linux (distro agnostic here and willing to use whatever is required) which will give me the functionality, and more importantly, the speed of workflow of lightroom?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Check Lightzone. It's very similar to lightroom. It's not free of charge ($99), but you can download a free 1-month trial.
It's specifically designed for photographers. I found it very intuitive and efficient when processin raw photos.

http://www.lightcrafts.com/lightzone/

I happily used it for a few years until I upgraded my camera which turned out not to be supported by the program.

There's also: bibble (http://bibblelabs.com/) but it's more expensive.

Many thanks for the replies so far.

In reference to what is lightroom, I should have posted what it does.
Lightroom is an upload-cards-to-outputting-finished-images workflow solution designed purely for photographers.
It processes the raw files (or jpegs if you shoot those) and applies adjustments as directed by the user. Correcting white balance (my biggest "forget"), cropping, exposure correction, lens corrections (current version only), noise reduction and so many more corrections. Slideshow output, print output, web output, file output for upload to labs. Backing up of your images, management of your images, keywording images, a full database to allow you to track your images properly.

In short, a proper solution to the many programmes that many of us used previously but all in one package. I know this goes against the usual *nix ethos of small and simple and chain it together as required, but it's an absolute godsend to photographers when wanting to process a wedding shoot quickly and efficiently. The only problem is that I've yet to find something that does this in the open source world; which is why I asked here.

Thankyou,
Matty

There is no such thing, at least not one that is open source or free of charge (or both) and is comparable to the manufacturers' own software, or that of 3rd parties such as Adobe or Apple. I've looked, haven't found, and still have to do some of my photo works outside of Linux though if you have the money for 5D mk II and fit lenses for it, money shouldn't be your problem when it comes to photo software...so your reasoning must be something else.

Don't do it just because of the operating system. If the photo app is good for you, stick with it, because switching to a nicer OS for a crappier software that you'll be using for endless hours in the future means you'll burn yourself out in no time. Choose tools for the work, not tools for the tools.

i my self use f-stop, Gimp ,Nip2
and the terminal g'mic ( better than the std imagemagick )
http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml
- true there are a bunch of unneeded "filters" but for std balance and gamma it is great
it seamlessly interfaces with ufraw and has built in batch options ( and custom made options )
and i was working in darkroom( custom color/B&W hand enlargers) for way to many years

Yes. I can afford the software, and have a proper purchased licence for lightroom. I have no problem rewarding the efforts of anyone who writes, designs, creates or otherwise produces content whatever that content is - including software. I'd prefer something that is open though, so that the database of adjustments, or catalogue in lightroom terminology, can be accessed from other software if required.

Thankyou to all who have replied. Looks like I'm sticking to lightroom for the time being.

Hehe,
I decided to pull the old Linux change one word and add clone to it. I google searched "darkroom a lightroom clone" and may have found an alternative for you if you wanted to check it out.

http://darktable.sourceforge.net/ (website, documentation, etc.)

This is the project page, if there's a donation page then I recommend donating to it because for new projects it's hard to get into full swing starting out. Also rate the project "thumbs up" if you like it . This will improve it's exposure on sourceforge.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/darktable/

This looks very much like lightroom (from what I can tell of screenshots on Adobes website).

It seems to have moved from alpha to beta (according to the project status). I, and others at LQ, can assist you with how to build the binary version if you run into problems.

I don't know how full featured it is but it is definitely a project to keep an eye on in the future. It is currently active.

If you ever convert your photos to PDF then it is worth checking out imagemagick.
