libX11 problem

Hi All,

I've been trying to install some software that requires libx11.so. I downloaded Xfree86-libs-4.3.0-62.EL.i386.rpm and installed it.

While installing, there are no errors. However, when I try to install my software it still says libX11 needs to be installed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Ian

You probably need a package called something like libx11 I don't know the proper redhat name for it but in debian it's libx11(-dev). But it's completely different from XF86

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt reply...but I'm a bit of a newbie, so you'll have to be a bit more specifiic if you can.

When I extracted the original XF86, I did get a libX11.so

Thus, are you suggesting that there is a completely different libX11 out there?

Thanks again,
Ian

It's the dev part that counts. You need to install the development libs if you want to compile against them.
