Just a suggestion, try
Code:
killall -9 thunderbird-bin
and then see if you can start it.

Cheers, Leon.

Code:
find ~/.thunderbird -name lock
i've had a similar error before; sometime's it's due to an erroneous lock file in the .thunderbird directory. If you find any, delete or rename it and try again.
