latex .sty directory in debian

Hi, I'm using Debian and need to use some new latex ".sty" files. However, I would like to put them in a directory where the default .sty files are, instead of storing them locally in the same directory as my document.
I can not find the right location,!! any idea ?
thanks.

You could make your own directory for all of your sty files like

/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/mystys

Then just run texhash from a terminal to rebuild the list of installed sty files. That should just about do it.

Note: it has been a while since I've done this, but it should work.
