Latest VMware failed to start on Fedora Core 6

Hi All,

I have the latest version of vmware install on my Fedora Core 6 running GNOME, VMware workstation 5.5.3-34685. However, when I ran it, an error message popped up saying that:

/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)

And then vmware failed to start. My kernel version is 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6-i686. After searching on Internet, I found this problem also exists in other distributions, such as ubuntu.

Anyone knows how to fix this problem? Thanks a lot!

Last time I took a shot at VMware it was quite specific on which file(s) it expected to exist.

I worked around that by symlinking the exact name VMware looked for to my more generic file. VMware ran fine afterwards.

After searching around for solutions, I succeeded in launching vmware by simply adding a line to my .bash_profile

export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK="force vmware"

And then, although the error message still popped up, vmware finally got started in FC6, and so far I didn't see any side effects yet.
