I'm using Gentoo 2.4.26-r9 and Kde 3.3.0 and I have the same problem. I emerged samba 3.0.7-r1, startet lisa and samba server from /etc/init.d/ and can see the machines on the LAN, but when opening the SMB folder in konqueror or type smb://192.168.1.35 (or any other valid IP) I get the following error:
Quote:
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'smb'.
.
However, I can browse the shared folders on my gentoo box from winxp.
Yeah I can go to the mounted folder and browse nicely and I'll settle with this (since I was going to mount them anyways), but the error still remains. This method works fine for me so I'm good tho. If however someone knows how to fix the error message that would be nice.
