keyboard having identity crisis in gtk

I was trying looking into getting other languages working on my gentoo box yesterday and I must have done something to the gtk settings when I used localedef for something, because now every app that uses gtk uses the ī and ` keys as modifiers. I have to hit them twice to type the character itself, otherwise itīll put an accent over the next letter typed. Basically, itś treating it as a french/spanish keyboard.

I haven been able to figure out how to fix it, but I certain the gtk settings are all that need fixing, because where gaim, x-chat and firefox have the issue, opera and kwrite do not.

Anyone know where I went wrong and what to do to fix it?
