Hi. I recently installed debian onto an older machine I had lying around but cant seem to install things that arent supported by apt. I believe its a problem with where my kernel-source is but I can't figure out whats wrong. The first part of the installation instructions are:
1. extract the archive:
$ tar -jxvf cdemu-<VER>.tar.bz2
2. you need the source of your current running kernel.
/lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build/include needs to point at it.
3. build the module:
$ make
I extracted the archive. I checked in /lib/modules/ and there was a folder called 2.6.8-2-386 which is the same as what uname -r returns. Inside there was no folder titled 'build' so I made one and ran 'ln -s /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8/include /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/build/include'
/usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8 being where my kernel source seems to be.
Still however, when I go to the extracted cdemu archive folder and type make, it returns:
strangebiscuit:/home/strangebiscuit/cdemu-0.7# make
make: *** No rule to make target `cdemu.ko', needed by `modules'. Stop.
Can anyone help me correct what I'm doing wrong? I'd really appreciate the advice and its the only way I'll learn
Thanks in advance!
