Kernel version and Myth version requirments???

I seem to of ran across this before, but for the life of me, can't find it again. I've got Mandriva 2.6.17, and downloaded the 0.20 mythtv. Are there kernel requirments?

..and if there are, would I have to recompile mythtv again with the new kernal afterwards?

... I'm having a strange problem where if I access the mythtv-setup screen, the color's are all off, like there's a driver conflict or even a hardware conflict or something. You can just make out the menu setup screen, but the color's are scrambled. Once, I even tried to start the frontend, but my computer hard locked, and a reset press was needed.

So far, I've been up till 3 and 4 in the morning for the past two nights trying to get this going... I'm gratefull my company is relaxed about tardiness.

Since nobody has replied I figured I might be able to add something helpful.

Have you looked at the MythTV software kit to see if there are files with names like "readme" or "install"? These types of files are often helpful.

Have you looked at the MythTV web site/forums?

How about the Mandriva web site? They may have information about configuring MythTV with their own software.

If I were going to build a MythTV box I would start by using a preconfigured Linux distribution like KnoppMyth.

That's all that I can think of.

Seconded!

MythTV can be a nightmare to get working - Over the years I have tried several times, but have never managed to achieve even acceptable functionality.

I highly recommend you start with Knoppmyth or even LinuxMCE (Ubuntu 6.10 based), and allocate at least a week for solving problems. Things like the ivtv module for TV cards are highly dependant on your kernel version, and simply do not work if you don't get it just right. So, yes, if you change your kernel, you are likely to break MythTV - It's best to have a PC or at least partition that is only for Myth.

In fairness to all the developers, TV standards differ markedly around the world, as do the tuners fitted to all the different USB / PCI cards, frequencies used, channels allocated etc. It is very complex, but linux support is getting better all the time.

Good luck!
