Kernel size
I'm curious to see what everyones kernel size is. I compiled a new [edit] 2.6.9 kernel for a backup server to slim it down a little. It is definitely much faster now especially at boot time, but to my suprise the final kernel size was a little larger than the previous stock kernel. I did add preemptive kernel support, but the other 30 things I took out I thought would have slimmed it down significantly.
Be sure to put your distribution, kernel version, and what your using your computer for.
I'll start:
Fedora Core 2
1,245,195 bytes
Backup Samba and Rsync server.
