I'm newbie with Linux and I guess this problem has been here before, anyway I couldn't find solution that I understood...

I'm trying to install Mandrake 8.1 to my system:
- Abit KR7(VIA KT266A chipset);
- AMD Athlon XP processor
- Maxtor D740 hard drive(Highpoint ATA133)
- Radeon 7500

Linux installation starts normally. No matter, whether I try normal or expert setup, anyway it ends up like this:

Then my pc just freezes. Could I try to install with older Kernel(HOW?)? Could there be problem with Highpoint HPT372 driver ? Anyway I'm kind of lost... Thanks in advance !

Put the drive on the onboard IDE controller.
