Kernel Hacking

I am trying to change from 4 stacks to 16 stacks... how do I do kernel hacking to do that? I have Mandrake 10.. and it isnt installed yet- I am doing thtat tonight... so I assume it would be easier to do this while it is installing rather then doing a recompile.

If I have to recompile, is there anywhere with step by step instructions on how to do that?

Anyway, please help me figure out how to change the stack option before I install it so it will be easy.

BTW- I am installing ndiswrapper with a 2.6 kernel. They all say we need to disable the 4kconfig option using kernel hacking in menuconfig- but I have no idea how to do that.

Thanks.

With Mandrake, there's no magic way to compile the kernel while installing the distro. If you want to do something like that, look into Gentoo (I'm not sure if it's really possible there either). In any case, it's definitely easiest to install a working kernel, get the sources, modify them, and recompile. That way if you fsck up and it doesn't work, you can boot into your old kernel.

Anyway, why exactly do you want to change the kernel stack size? This will require many changes in the kernel to get working properly. Fortunately, it appears someone else has done pretty much all the work for you, as referenced in this post. I suggest you read the patch to see how it was done.
