kernel compiling, result in mount fs read-only

I just compiled the new kernel on my box (relatively, i do have suse 9.1 which comes in with 2.6, but i put 2.4 on there cause i need source code of 2.4 to do and test some projects)
do the standard kernel compiling thing, it seems to do everything right, reboot, login and give me FATAL: fs mounted as read-only, then even if I could log in, i can't write to the disk, how can i fix that?

addition question (which might cause the error):
i enable the init ram disk support for the kernel, and i couldn't find the initrd file that the 2.4 kernel generated, so I just used the same one that my 2.6 kernel is using and write it in my grub/menu.lst file, i think that's what might cause the problem? any suggestions?

Try removing your initrd entry in lilo.conf or grub.conf for that kernel.
