Kernel compilation, clean vs distclean

Hi all.

Please tell me what is the purpose (difference) of:
make distclean
and
make clean

I accidentally used one of them, not so sure which one,
make bzImage and install it without make modules and make modules_install.
Mistake !!!
All of the installed modules were swept away so I had to
recompile everything. 3 Hours gone !!!

read the first part of this article at the top...
to make a long story short, make distclean removes more files then make clean does..

Thanks DrOzz.

So it looked like I used distclean since everything was wiped out.
But I want to make it sure.
I though that 'make clean' removes only the compiled *.o,
not the installed ones.
Is that right ?
