Kernel 2.6.8.1 with compiled in DRI (how do I use it?)
I'm a fairly experienced linux user trying to compile XFree86 4.4.0 on my Dell Inspiron 9100. I have a few questions about DRI for you gurus out there. I like my kernels as monolithic as possible, so I compile everything I need in, leave what I don't out. However, I can't find much information about how to USE the compiled in DRI support and compiled in ATI Radeon driver that is included in the 2.6.8.1 kernel. I know X likes to load the "glx" and "dri" modules as well as the "radeon" display driver module, but if it is already compiled in to my kernel, how should I instruct X to use the kernel drivers instead of the modules that it wants to build (and I DON'T want to build)? ALSO, is there anything in addition to the kernel's DRI support and DRI video driver that I need during the XFree86 4.4.0 build? Long story short, I don't want to build anything I don't need when it comes to X, and I want my radeon to use DRI. After multiple non-DRI-working builds I'm not even sure what I should include in my */xc/config/cf/host.def file to make it all come together. Any help is appreciated! To keep this post small I'll provide the details later if you need them (host.def, kernel .config, etc.) Thanks a million!
