Kernel 2.6.15.1 "losing" agpgart?

I have a problem I am not sure about. The first time I configure my kernel I set agpgart as a module and go about my various options. When I make modules_install, I notice that agpgart isn't copied over into my modules dir. I also notice that when I make menuconfig and modify and old config, agpgart and the intel options have -- next to them. So I pico'ed the .config file and set both agpgart and the intel option below it to M. Didn't work. I tried re-installing the kernel. But it does the same thing. I also attempted to modprobe agpgart as a sort of useless attempt, and naturally it isn't found. So am I just missing something? Do I need to try another kernel? Thanks in advance for any help.

There is no need to use another kernel because I also use 2.6.15.1 and compiled support for these modules without any problem.
What is the output of:
Code:
grep -i agp  /usr/src/linux-2.6.15.1/.config
It should be something like:
Code:
CONFIG_AGP=m
# CONFIG_AGP_ALI is not set
# CONFIG_AGP_ATI is not set
# CONFIG_AGP_AMD is not set
# CONFIG_AGP_AMD64 is not set
CONFIG_AGP_INTEL=m
CONFIG_AGP_NVIDIA=m
and the modules should be built in ls /lib/modules/2.6.15.1/kernel/drivers/char/agp/
Perhaps you have to review the way you compile your kernel, or look for any error messages. Are you sure you're compiling as root because cannot copy the module is very strange.
