KDE3.02 Communication DCOP Error

Hi,

I have been using KDE 3 for a while but just reinstalled my system (Mandy 8.2) and I have some problems with KDE 3.02. I forced the rpms available from the ftp site linked from kde.org with rpm -Uvh *.rpm --force --no deps and it went on find. I did this as root and was then able to log on as root. Obviously I want access for non root users. This however gave me the message "could not read network connection list /home/user/.DCOPserver_hostname_0"

Relevant bits above replaced. Now I cannot get access as root either. Doing the rpms again gives the same error. By remaking my NVidia drivers I was able to get back into KDE2 again but not 3. This is very odd and I would appreciate some help. There is an error mentioned when I kill X which says that the libfam.so.0 shared library is required and not found. and that kdeinit can't be contacted. Have I omited an important rpm and not seen it because of --nodeps?

If you have any ideas please let me know. Maybe I should remove all theKDE rpms and start again?

I need help with this one as once I get it on I am going to go for the big one and delete Windoze completely

Cheers

Iain

Thanks,

That helped a bit but I still had problems. In the end I managed to fix it by installing KDE 3.0 and then urpmi * all the KDE 3.02 rpms.

All I need to do now to remember how to get postfix to work...
