KDE Connect - can't get it working between Mint 20.3 and CalyxOS on a pixel 4a

Installs fine both devices
Firewall rules in place
I've added the PC via Hostname
Can ping phone from PC
KDE Connect Indicator shows the phone
Cannot connect, just goes round-and-round

Any body know what I might have done wrong?

How are you connecting to the phone? I use a bluetooth IP connection or what we used to call Bluetooth PAN to my phone and it works well. Your mention of firewall rules are suspicious because I have not needed to do that. I do remember that it was "working" for a while at first but I just did not know what to do. You should be able to click the KDE connect indicator on the computer and see a few options like browsing the phone filesystem. Do not give up on it because it is one of those examples of programs we have in the open source world that no one else has. Kind of like how web browsing was noticeably better with open source software in the 2000s and 2010s.

Thanks for answering.
I have been trying to use KdeConnect for years, every now and then I try with a new phone or box.
Have [I]never[I] succeeded
Most of the how-tos talk about "KDE Connect Settings" but I've never found such a thing installed, not in the Main Menu or in that part of it that does install.
Something is wrong, I think. Starting to think"The Pauli Effect" is actually real.

I am sure we will get you connected. If you check the Google reviews for KDE Connect like every other popular program there are definitely some people posting with let's just say minimal technology knowledge.

I see that the most popular way to use KDE connect is over wifi so try that first before using Bluetooth. Do not connect the phone directly over USB to the computer like you would do with an old PDA as that is definitely a red herring.

Then tell us exactly what errors you see. I can tell you that when I make my Bluetooth connection which puts both devices on a virtual IP network that KDE connect automatically connects to my phone. An auto reconnect like that should also happen once paired for the first time when your phone joins your wireless network. KDE Connect uses an IP-overlaid concept like a simple network like "Appletalk" where you see all computers on your "subnet" as a visual icon within the program.

Armed with that knowledge let's see how far you get.
