kde 4.0.4 icon themes wont work

System: openSUSE 11.0 (i586)
KDE: 4.0.4 (KDE 4.0.4 >= 20080505) "release 15.2"

hi-
i tried downloading a tar file from kde-look.org
(actually a couple)

the process went like this:
1) download tar
2) unpack into directory
4) ./buildset.sh

a new compressed file was created.
dependencies were met.

go into either kcontrol or configure destktop
and install using gui.

the new icon theme shows and i hit apply.
it acts like it will do something a progress bar appears.
nothing happens.

same icon set :-(

even for the icon sets that came by default, i just
cant get my icons to change on the desktop???

any ideas?
i have to go to bed right now because i work
soon tomorrow but would be glad to get a tip as
i have the labor day holiday weekend to look at this some
more.

my icons dont look real bad, i was just looking around
to check out some others. i changed my desktop background,
and splash screen and am very happy with its new appearance.
definitely cool.

if you are in the U.S. have a nice 3 day weekend.

thanks,
jim

first of all, don't use kde4

it has way too many problems and glitches to be called the next generation

i would downgrade to kde3, then you can probably install the icon theme on kde3

just go into yast2 and remove all the kde4 files and check the kde3 ones

kde3 is under KDE Base System

i did try kde4, and i will not go back for a while

but did you try and restart kde?

and yep, a nice 3 day weekend for us!

good luck,

rabbit2345

kde icon themes wont work 4.0.4 kde

hey-

thanks again. i downgraded really quick and the icon themes
worked right away. i tried a couple and picked the adrix1.1
at kde-look.org. very cool. i have the kasbar back too.
i like that in addition to the panel.

i heard a guy recently say linux graphics leave something
to be desired in some webcast (the link was on zdnet). i dont see it.
this is really nice. wish i had that link.
maybe he doesnt know where to find the good stuff!
i think he was from ibm and talked about the famous
ibm employees switched to using linux at work story
(again). it is an oldie but a goodie.

thanks again for the advice.

linux kde 4.0.4 themes

http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=9597

that is the link for the video.
i just posted it for completeness.
to some extent maybe the guy from ibm
has a point, but if you customize
and choose i believe the outcome
is brighter.

but ibm is definitely cool and he
seems like a very nice person.
i thought it has been forever talked
about that ibm would make the switch.
maybe it wasnt that long ago.
they have done so much for linux,
and java.

time to enjoy the weekend.
