k3b root privileges in Mandriva 2007

Dear Friends,
I have recently switched over from Windows 98. I have been trying Debian, Fedora Core, Mandriva and Ubuntu. As in any changeover, I am struggling to get on. In this connection, let me request you to clarify two things.
1. In Mandriva 2007, while attempting to run k3b (cd/dvd burning), it shows a message of configuration problem. It asks me to run the program with root privileges for better functionality. For that, it asks me to change the configuration. I don't know where to configure this thing to get it right. Please help me.
2. Secondly, my another system runs on Fedora 7. I have kept my important project reports in that. Hence, I have not connected it to the Internet. Now, when I attempt to add/remove software, it shows an error message that there is no network connection and exits. Then, how can I add/remove software from the installation DVD?
Thanks in advance for your help.

For point 1. If your cd/dvd burns are satisfactory then you don't need to make any changes, just select the option not to show that warning anymore. Just in case you still want to make the required change type this in a konsole as root [type su press enter, now input your root password and press enter]: chmod 4711 /usr/bin/cdrecord and press enter. Now type: exit and press enter to leave root mode.

Its probably a good idea to start a separate thread for your Fedora question.

Thank you friends. I will try this for Mandriva and start a new thread for Fedora.
