I can burn data DVDs just fine (in root at least), but when I try to copy a DVD (even a data DVD) I get the same error EVERY SINGLE TIME: :-( Write failed: Input/ouput error; fatal error at startup: Input/output error.
growisofs spits back the error (checked the debugging):
I've reinstalled dvd+-rw tools and k3b as well as updated my cdrdao and cdrecord. Yet I get the same error????? No one has so far resolved their posts regarding this problem..... PLEASE, somebody help?
It seems as though it is trying to copy your floppy drive. The arguments to growisofs should appear like /dev/hdc=/dev/hdd. Check and make sure the proper source is selected in k3b.
i've already looked into that. notice though how it says "/dev/fd/0" That's not the floppy drive, the floppy drive is /dev/fd0. The source isn't the problem. I always select my hdd as the source.
Just for future reference, /dev/fd/0 is the device that identifies the current device being used by the process. So in this case, it's suggesting that /dev/fd/0 point to /dev/hdc.... so there is still something else wrong with this
Ah, I did misread that bit. /dev/fd is a symlink to /proc/self/fd which contains all open file descriptors of the current process. In other words, standard input is being connected to /dev/hdc, it seems.
That still doesn't seem to explain the problems, of course. Tonight, I'll try to copy a DVD and see what my K3B logs say. That is, if my DVD-ROM drive works... it's been flaky lately. DVD+/-RW is still good though. I assume you are doing a drive->drive copy, based on your original post.
