Hello, all; before I started using Thunderbird, having my e-mail "ported" over to it, I was using the Juno e-mail program in Windows. It's a swell internet system, where you can very easily switch from read to write to web with just one click. Anyway, I'm wanting to get the Juno program working in Mint 18.3, but don't know how. Any replies will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Danny
It appears that juno doesn't provide software for Linux, only for Windows. You can use their web interface, probably (although the documentation talks about IE, so perhaps not), but not the email program.
I wasn't able to see all of their documentation as I don't have an account. Suggest you go to Juno.com and search or contact their support team.
Thanks for replying! Yes, it is possible to log on to Juno and get e-mail from the net, but it's a lot more inconvenient than just opening up the program and selecting "Get Mail." I haven't tried that many different e-mail programs, but Juno is extremely easy to use, and I'm wanting to get it going in Linux. Surely someone out there has figured out a way to make it happen, hopefully...
I have a very low income friend with an old Vista PC who can't afford broadband that I might have to do the same for in coming days. It would probably require installing Windows into a virtual machine running on Mint: VirtualBox or VMware, or using Wine for Juno.
Hello, All; I still want a reply from anyone who can tell me how to get the "Windows" Juno program to work properly in Linux Mint. Thanks... Oh yes, would you please reply to <email address removed>?
Danny, personal contact with email addresses is not how LQ works. We interact openly on this forum to solve issues, with all our conversations and advice being available in the future for those who have similar issues.
In addition, unless you want spammers to pay loving attention to your email address, I would advise you to delete it from your posts above.

I wasn't recommending you use their web mail. I was pointing out that you need to log into your account to access detailed support and/or contact them. Again, it doesn't appear that they provide their client software for other than Windows environments. (Their drop-down lists stop at Windows 7, even)
You could try installing wine and seeing if their software will run under that.

Windows software doesn't run on Linux, anymore than Mac software will run on Windows. Would you expect your gasoline engine to run on diesel??
There are **SOME** programs that run under Wine in Linux, but even then they're hit or miss. And this:

..is fairly ironic. It's 'inconvenient' to run one program (a web browser), that does multiple things, but it is NOT inconvenient to run a separate piece of software that does nothing but email?? Is double-clicking that much trouble?
Hi, guys. Yes, I have been able to to get the Juno e-mail program to work with the WINE software, but only for short periods. I'm using the Juno 5.1 version, build 83. I'll be doing something in the Juno program (reading mail, deleting a message, clicking on a new message, or seemingly anything else), and for no apparent reason a window will appear saying that for some reason Juno has encountered a technical problem that makes it necessary to shut the program down . I have no idea why it happens, but would like to know if it can be fixed by some sort of update (in WINE, Juno, etc?). Thanks for giving me any suggestions.

I'll repeat my original suggestion: Contact Juno Support and/or review their documentation that's not available to non-account holders.
As has been said, some things work with wine and some don't. Appears from your experience that the Juno email program is one of the things that doesn't. "So it goes." --K.Vonnegut

You've been given suggestions, but don't seem to acknowledge them. Again, you say that email through your browser is 'inconvenient', somehow. So running one program is somehow 'easier' than double-clicking on another? Makes little sense, nor does trying to shoehorn an ancient Windows program written for one ISP onto a Linux computer, especially since that programs only function is **DUPLICATED** by a web-browser which:
You already have
Can already use
Is used for other things besides email (multifunction typically > single-function)
Isn't it usually at this point in threads like these that someone posts the "Linux is not Windows" link?
If you are going to use Linux then life won't be exactly the same as it was when you used Windows. It many ways, it will in fact be better. But what you are going to have to do is be flexible, adjust, use Linux solutions for a Linux distro. If you are too full of resistance to change then life is not going to be fun.
For some Windows programs that I can't live without (or so I think, but there aren't that many anyway), I use a VirtualBox virtual machine. But use a virtual machine or even Wine for a fundamental and frequent operation like email? Nope. Either use a webmail client or a native Linux client. Anything else will just be painful.
for gnu/linux, there's plenty of usable email clients available.
i recently became partial to evolution because of calendar/addressbook and desktop theme integration, but there's about half a dozen more, starting with the ubiquitous thunderbird of course.
IMO, if someone can't even use linux software for their email client, i find the overall switch to gnu/linux highly questionable.
