hii
i have been trying to install .. JRE java package to view java applets .. i downloaded java from sun's website ...this package jre-1_5_0_05-linux-i586-rpm.bin
and then i followed the installtion instruction it created a rpm .... which was by this name
jre-1_5_0_05-linux-i586.rpm
and then i was able to make that file
libjavaplugin_oji.so
and then it asked me to create the link in the plugin directory ... of my browser .. i use firefox ... i executed this
cd /usr/lib/firefox-0.10.1/plugins
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0_05/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
which created a link for tht plugin in my browser's plugin directory
and then i restarted my browser .. tht is closing n opened it ... and also i enabled java in preferences
i m unable to see java applets .. it still says .. plugin missing ...
does anyone have java working on firefox .. i m downloading netscape .. but i like firefox ... my distribution is FC3 ..

This is a good tutorial on howto install Java under Fedora Core. Or maybe this howto, special for FC3.

After you restart the browser, you can check your installed plugins by typing about:plugins
