Question Java compiler. Where to get?

A program I'm installing requires ESDL, which requires OpenSSL (which I installed succesfully) and a "Java Compiler". What is it and where can I get it? I didn't find it on www.sun.com!

gcj compiles java to binary. javac (should be part of a complete java install) compiles it to byte code.
