Ite8211f

My hard drive controller (the ITE 8211 F) is not supported by the current linux kernels available. The only way to make it work is with a patch for the kernel written by Alan Cox.
My question is, is there a way to apply a kernel patch before the installation procedure begins? I need to install Ubuntu onto a disk that the kernel doesn't recognize, so I need a way for the installer to recognize the disk and then for the operating system to use it just as well.
Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Stephen

I've done a bit of research on this since that post. It looks like the 2.6.12 kernel just doesn't support it. Would you mind telling me which version of the kernel you're using, which distro, and what motherboard/controller cards you have?

Yeah, but is the version of slackware you're trying to install the version with the 2.4.31 kernel or the 2.6.13 version?

No it is a slackware 10.1 with a 2.4.29 or a 2.6.10 in testing.

You might try the new "testing" version from the SW website, then. They say it's kernel 2.6.13. I know the ITE controller doesn't work in 2.6.12, and I've read that it works in 2.6.14, but I don't know about 2.6.13. Best of luck.
